Myrtle Beach & the Grand Strand

Garage Door Springs, Openers and Repairs Across Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand

A door that will not open, a loud bang from the garage, an opener that hums and does nothing. Call and a local garage door company takes it from there, usually the same or next business day.

Myrtle Beach is harder on garage doors than most places in a specific way. Salt air rusts the springs, hinges and roller bearings. Humidity gets into opener boards and keypads. And every few years a hurricane tests whether the door was ever rated for the wind it is now standing in front of.

What garage door repair costs in Myrtle Beach

Local companies generally quote $250–$450 to replace a pair of torsion springs on a standard two-car door, and $150–$350 for cables or a door off its track. Door weight, spring type and whether parts are rusted together move the number most.

What gets fixed

Broken torsion and extension springs, frayed or snapped lift cables, doors off their tracks, worn rollers and bent hinges, openers that hum, click or reverse, remotes and keypads that stopped working, and safety sensors that will not let the door close. When a door is beyond saving, or the house needs a wind-rated door it never had, the same company quotes a replacement.

The coastal part

The springs on a Myrtle Beach garage door are bare steel under a light oil film, and salt air finds them. Rust adds friction along the coils, and a rusted spring tends to fail sooner than its cycle rating says. The same thing happens to hinge pins, roller bearings and the track fasteners. On the blocks east of Kings Highway it shows up within a few years. Out in Carolina Forest or Conway, far enough from the beach, a door's hardware lasts noticeably longer.

Humidity is the other half. Opener logic boards, wall buttons and outdoor keypads all sit in a garage that is rarely dry from May through September, and corrosion on a contact is behind a fair share of "the opener just stopped" calls. Sometimes the fix is a twenty-dollar part. Sometimes the opener is old enough that replacing it costs barely more than repairing it, and a straight answer on which is which saves money.

Wind ratings matter on this coast

Myrtle Beach sits inside the hurricane-prone region of the residential building code, and a two-car garage door is the largest single opening on most houses. When it fails in a storm, wind pressurises the house from the inside. Hurricane Ian made its second US landfall near Georgetown in 2022, Florence put the Waccamaw at a record level in Conway in 2018, and doors installed before modern wind ratings were common are still in service all over the Strand. A replacement door should carry a wind-load rating that suits the house. Whether a permit is needed for the swap depends on where the house is, which the permit guide explains.

Where we work in Myrtle Beach

  • Carolina ForestWest of the Waterwaybuilt out from the 1990s onward and outside city limits, so permits here go to Horry County rather than the city; a lot of the builder-installed springs and openers are now at the age where they give out
  • The Market CommonSouth endbuilt on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, so the housing is newer; where an HOA sets exterior standards, ask about door style and colour before anything is ordered
  • Grande DunesOcean to the Intracoastalgated, about 2,200 acres running from the beach to the Waterway; larger homes with heavier insulated and carriage-style doors, which need heavier springs
  • Pine LakesCentral Myrtle Beachan established area around the 1927 Pine Lakes course, less than half a mile from the ocean; older garages here sometimes carry doors and openers that have been patched for decades
  • Socastee and ForestbrookSouthwest, unincorporatedlow streets along the Intracoastal Waterway, including Rosewood, flooded badly after Hurricane Florence in 2018; floodwater in a garage reaches the bottom seal, rollers and safety sensors first
  • East of Kings HighwayOceanfront blocksthe streets nearest the beach, where salt spray reaches springs, hinges and roller bearings fastest and rust shortens their life well below what an inland door gets

Common questions

What does it cost to call you?

Nothing. There is no charge for the call or the referral, and no obligation once you have a quote. You pay the garage door company directly for the work, at whatever price you agree with them.

How fast can someone come out?

Usually the same or next business day for a door that is stuck or a spring that has broken. A replacement door is slower, because doors are ordered to size; wind-rated doors in particular can take a few weeks to arrive.

My door is stuck open. Is it safe to leave it overnight?

It is not dangerous to leave it where it is, but it is an open house. If the opener has lost power or the spring is broken, do not try to force it closed by hand on a broken spring; the door can weigh well over a hundred pounds. Call and say it is stuck open, because that changes how soon someone comes.

Do you cover my part of the Grand Strand?

Myrtle Beach first, including Carolina Forest, Socastee and the Market Common, plus Conway, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach and Georgetown. If you are somewhere in between, such as Murrells Inlet or Little River, call with the ZIP.

I own a rental here but live out of state. Can this be handled remotely?

Often, yes. Out-of-state owners call regularly. Tell the company who will let them in (a property manager, a neighbour or a keypad code) and how you want to approve the price before work starts.

Are you a garage door company?

No, and you should know that before you call. We are an advertising and referral service. Your call or request goes to an independent local garage door company that serves your area. We do not do the work, hold a contractor licence, or take a cut of what you pay.
